Model Profile: Natasha Poly

Natasha Polevshchikova (try saying that one), shortened to Natasha Poly is one of my favorite models. At the age of 22 she has been on the cover of Vogue seven times and appeared on the most desired runways such as Gucci, Lanvin, D&G, Chanel, and Victoria's Secret. Recently models.com ranked her #7 on their top 50 models list.

Model Profile: Gemma Ward

This video is from Fashion TV (I love fashion TV). It shows backstage footage of Gemma Ward working the runway, at photoshoots, and in interviews. It also has subtitles giving all sorts of random information about her. Hope you like it!

Lagerfeld Confidential

A Karl Lagerfeld Documentary:

'For the first time Karl Lagerfeld has agreed to let someone create an artwork on his every day life and to trust in the director. Until today there is no authorised biography existing and the memories who Karl Lagerfeld would compose stay perfectly confidential. After three years of work, and over three hundred hours of footage, Rodolphe Marconi discloses the daily life of the star through his personal lens as a filmmaker' (Website Synopsis).

Real Housewives of New York City

Bravo TV

This is news to me: Bravo launched a New York City version of their reality show Real Housewives (of Orange County) on March 4th. Living across the pond really does seclude you, all these new shows in the States and I am missing them. Did anyone watch the premiere episode? If so, how was it? The women look like they need a little bit of help in the fashion department...

Hermès

Jean Paul Gaultier, designer for the house of Hermès was inspired to bring back the smoking jacket, hence his reason for having some of the models smoke on the runway. Smoking jackets were particularly popular in the Victorian Era where women didn't want the smell of smoke on their husbands everyday clothes, so when he went to smoke he would put on the jacket. Also, there were smoking caps to prevent men's hair from smelling of tobacco.
I like how Jean Paul Gaultier added Western flare by using lots of fringe and high heeled cowboy boots.

At Home with Coco Chanel

"Coinciding with the relaunch of Chanel's flagship Paris boutique, 18 Place Vendome, VogueTV became one of the first camera crews ever allowed into Coco Chanel's very own apartment. See the latest jewellery collection, inspired by some of Coco's original diamond designs, as it is unveiled, and witness the artwork and superstitions that made such a legendary designer tick. Vogue's jewellery editor, Carol Woolton, hosts our exclusive film and finds out why Chanel collected ornamental lions, how she brought diamonds back into fashion, how the quilted bag was inspired by her suede sofa, and why the number five became her lucky number" (YouTube introduction)

Balenciaga

Marcio Madeira/VOGUE.COM

Sharp silhouettes and perfectly sculpted dresses are what Nicolas Ghesquière had in mind for this season. The collection was a glimpse into the future with sharp edged cuts, and the use of rubber, plastic, and patent leather fabrics. I was a bit upset not to see Ghesquière's handbags on the runway though...so I immediately went to the Balenciaga website to check out the latest accessories.

Sunday Brunch

Weekend

On our way out.... Neal's brother was in town on Saturday night so we took him around to a few local pubs.

I even read magazines in pubs... And I found this beautiful dress in it. Im wearing a necklace that my dear friend Jill gave me for Christmas and Neal's tiffany's silver bracelet that I bought him a few years back.

CHANEL

The Moment we've all been waiting for...

Chanel was the highlight of Paris Fashion Week by far. Karl Lagerfeld out did himself yet again by putting on a unique show. Not only did the models walk the runway, but they stood on a large carousel in the center of the room with statues of Chanel's signature pieces: A large bottle of Chanel no5, pearls, and a quilted bag amongst other items.
The next thing I am going to buy are those opaque-sheer tights and a pair of Mary Janes. I probably spent 40 minutes looking at this collection online because the clothes are so beautiful and classic Chanel. I also will post more pictures of the collection because there is much more to see..... <3

Valentino's new leading lady

Last season was Valentino's final collection after 45 years and he has now passed his crown on to former Gucci creative director Alessandra Facchinetti. After Valentino's final show which seemed to many like the end of an era, the pressure was on for Alessandra as she had big shoes to fill. Fashion critics were uneasy about this young designer taking Valentino's place, but I thought differently. She did very well at Gucci and there was no doubt in my mind that if she could master Gucci, she could branch out and attempt Valentino. The collection she created was typically Valentino, fresh and beautiful. Before the show, she told the media that she has never been so nervous before to show a collection. At least now she can sit back and relax because the fashion world has just accepted her with open arms after this remarkable show.

Blumarine

I don't think I've never liked a Blumarine collection. I think their designs are always well structured and feminine. This season was interesting because the beginning of the collection was full of pastel colored dresses and soft sweaters, then it took a turn and lots of leopard animal print was shown. I like this contrast because you don't want to be wearing dark colors all winter so I like how they incorporated lighter colors into the mix.

The Colors of the Oscars

Even though it was raining during the red carpet arrivals, the celebrities brightened up the evening by wearing lots of color. Heidi Klum looked stunning in her red gown and Kelly Preston has never looked better. Marion Cotillard also looked really beautiful in her white mermaid-like dress by Jean Paul Gaultier.
You can go to eonline to view the best and worst dresses of the night.

Sicky

Hello All, sorry for not updating much lately, I have a viral infection in my throat.
I went to the most useless doctor yesterday and all he suggested I do was to continue taking the over the counter medicines I have been taking for the past week. Everything he told me I knew already.
The only reason I went to see a doctor is because I thought I was going to get antibiotics. BUT he did say that I should come back if it gets worse and then he would give me antibiotics...
oh and rob me of more money.
Anyway, hopefully I will get a few posts up today!

All about the shoes

Don Ashby/VOGUE.COM

I will admit it, I like Prada's accessories this season more than the clothes. The collection is very old Victorian with lots of lace and turtleneck/longsleeved dresses. The shoes on the other hand are beautiful and sculpture-like. Once again another designer is bringing spring floral designs into their winter collection, but this time it really works.

Spring into Winter

When I clicked to view Roberto Cavalli's A/W 08-09 collection I thought I accidently chose his S/S 08 collection. It just happens that he decided to continue his feminine fifties dresses into the winter. It did surprise me though to see white floral dresses in this collection, but at least he added the occasional grey and black pair of trousers. Truthfully, I wouldn't want to wear spring-like dresses during the autumn and winter, I very much enjoy wearing chunky sweaters and long coats. I do on the other hand like the third black dress above, I wouldn't mind wearing it on a fancy evening out ~

Mariah's Home

I wanted to post this video because it has been a while since I've seen Mariah Carey's episode of cribs. I just watched The Ultimate Cribs on MTV...and of course Mariah's house was number 1. Its beautiful and her closet looks like a luxury department store...

As the saying goes...Let them eat cake!

Charm City Cakes

Duff Goldman, or Chef Duff, is the creator and owner of Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, Maryland. You probably have heard of him or would recognize his face from one of my favorite shows 'Ace of Cakes' on the Food Network. Chef Duff and a hand full of his friends (artists, musicians, architects, graphic designers etc..) create these masterpieces. They design road sign cakes, ski slope cakes, and cakes to look like something out of Alice and Wonderland! You really should look at these on their website, you won't believe your eyes. They are so amazing that if I was given one, I would almost feel guilty eating it ....almost

I see Paris! I see France! I see Stellas......

Stella McCartney is taking the world by storm and as I mentioned last month, Selfridges dedicated part of the store to showcase her new collections and collaboration with Adidas, LeSportsac and her new lingerie line. Unfortunately, today is the last day 'the world of stella' will be in the department store. I really do suggest that everyone in the area check it out while you still can.
Stellas collaboration with Bendon, a New Zealand lingerie manufacturer is something the designer has wanted to do since she started her label.
"The day has come for women to embrace lingerie for themselves! It's not just about pleasing men but about pleasing yourself! For me, what underwear I choose reflects my mood. It goes hand in hand with what you put on top of it" as she told Elle Magazine in their March issue.

Stella's new lingerie collection bounces off the idea for her S/S Ready to Wear collection with soft cotton, sheer, and lace fabrics with floral and feminine prints. She even came up with names for different ranges of the lingerie collection such as: Eve Giggling, Sandy Stripping, Dolly Snogging, and Daisy Dreaming.

V Magazine

You can find her lingerie at the Stella McCartney boutique in West London, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Liberty, and net-a-porter.com.
